443. George Emory Kann Jr
George Emory Kann Jr. b. May 8th 1918 d. July 15th 1973 son of George & Bertha.George was born in Shippensburg, Pa. on a beautiful spring Wednesday morning at the George Himes Farm where the family was living. He graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1938. Married on Oct. 13th 1940 to Kathryn Mae Bricker b. April 22nd 1919 in Plainfield, Pa. (father; Milton Elmer Bricker 7/24/1879-1918, mother; Anna Dorothy Burkholder 11/2/1879-11/1/1963). They were married in Williamsport, Washington County, Md. On April 3rd 1943 George enlisted in the Army (WWII ) he was stationed in the South Pacific (Philippine Islands and New Guinea). He returned home to Shippensburg on January 31st 1946. Where they lived until April of 1956 when they moved to York, Pa. He worked for P. A & S. Small Co. as a salesman. He later worked for Kunzler's, Lancaster, Pa. George died on July15th1973 while visiting at the home of close friends in Gettysburg Pa. Kathryn died at her home in York, Pa. on May19th 1998. They are buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery,York, Pa.

George E. Kann Jr., 55 husband of Kathryn M. Bricker Kann, 2590 Clearbrook Blvd. died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Annie Warner Hospital, Gettysburg. Mr. Kann was born in Shippensburg, a son of the late George E. and Bertha Guyer Kann. He was a salesman for the Kunzler Meat Co. of Lancaster. Mr. Kann was a member of Hayshire United Church of Christ. Cumberland Valley Lodge 315 Free and Accepted Masons; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harrisburg Valley, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Haas, 135 N. Keesey St.; two sons, Jeffrey M. Kann, 2811 Meadowbrook Blvd. and George E. Kann 3rd, 2653 Carnegie Road; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert Strohm, Shippensburg; and three brothers, Arthur L. Kann, 1870 Lilac Road; Franklin A. Kann, Shippensburg, and Richard W. Kann, Newville, Pa. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dodson Funeral Home, 517 N. George St. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Wallace enlisted in the Army on Feb. 3 1943 and served four years stationed in Africa and Italy. They are buried at Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, Pa. 3 children; ; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Edwin A. Kann, 77, of 920D Menno Village, Chambersburg, and formerly of 1138 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, Va. died Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Chambersburg hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of E. Marie Riggs Kann, whom he married on Oct. 13, 1936 in Shippensburg. Born April 18, 1915 in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Clayton A. and Mary B. Fogelsanger Kann. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, where he served on the church’s board of Elders. He was a member of Good Samaritan Lodge No. 336 F & AM in Gettysburg. He served on the board of directors of Culpeper Memorial Hospital and was past president of Culpepper Chamber of Commerce. He began in 1939 in rural electric work when he organized the rural areas of Franklin and Cumberland counties of Pennsylvania into a rural electric cooperative district. He was predecessor of the Adams Electric Cooperative. He served as coordinator and district manager for Adams Electric Cooperative from 1940 to 1942. From 1942 to 1960, he was a member of the Adams Electric Cooperative board of directors at Gettysburg and held the office of secretary. During this period, he completed all of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Director Institutes and earned his certificate. He completed the NRECA management institutes and special workshops for certification. In 1960, he became manager of and member of public services for Adams Electric Cooperative. In August 1967 he became General Manager of Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative at Culpeper, Va. He served as general manager until January 1980, with the manager of Northern Piedmont and Virginia Electric Cooperatives, which became Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. After his retirement he formed his own management consulting business doing work for NRECA and REA until January of 1983, at which time he assumed responsibilities of Executive Director of Culpeper Chamber of Commerce. From 1942 to 1960, he was involved in Dairy Farming in Franklin County. He is survived by two daughters, Marjorie M. (Mrs. Donald H.) Fogelsanger of Chambersburg and Barbara L. (Mrs. Lawrence M.) Beard of Leesburg, Va.; two sons, Carroll E. Kann of Avon, Conn. and Dale E. Kann of Carmel, Ind.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred (Mrs. John) Immel of Carlisle. Memorial services will held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Donald Bracken officiating. Private interment will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery in Shippensburg prior to the service. Friends may call following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201, or to Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2075 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201. Bob was a genuinely nice man, this researcher having had the pleasure of meeting him only twice, once at Gilbert Conn's funeral and the other when we met Bert and Bob, as well as L. D. and Charlene Davis in Branson, MO.

Robert H. Hunter, 85, died at 2:30 a.m., January 23, 2005, in the Naples, Florida Community Hospital.
Born January 17, 1920, near East Prairie, son of the late Robert William and Susie Mae (Woodward) Hunter, he lived in East Prairie most of his life. Bob was a veteran of the U. S. Army, he retired as postmaster for the East Prairie Post Office and was a member of Nelson United Methodist Church.On September 15, 1946, he married Roberta Lea Conn, who preceded him in death, on October 5, 1997. Also preceding him in death were infant twins; three brothers, Hal "Buster", Richard W., and an infant brother; five sisters, Susie Aycock, Amanda DeField, Lela Hart and infant twin sisters.
Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Kenton Craig and Susan Jane Hunter, of Centennial, CO; one sister, Ruth Wilson of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Allison Claire Renken of Grand Junction, CO and Emily Amanda Hunter of Centennial.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today, at Shelby Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Jim Quist will officiate. Brown Twitty American Legion Post 595 of New Madrid will conduct graveside military rites at East Prairie Memorial park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: John Aycock, Robert W. Hunter, J. R. Hunter, Tom Hart, Jim Sides and Taylor Dial.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Noone Bruce, Bill Adkison, Marion Waggoner, Earl D. Simpkins, George Roberts, Glen Tenkoff, Roy Wilburn, Warren Hearnes, Joe Watson, Dr. J. D. Heath, Norbert Halter, Mike Hogan, JackEmory, Richard Falkoff, Avery Hutcheson, Joel Sorrells, Bill Ponder and Steve Hodges.
